Pairing up a class act with a brand that needs a bit of elevating is a well- tried marketing strategy. With Salvatore Calabrese at the helm of Salvatore's at the Playboy Club, the bunny image is given a shot of formal elegance by way of the cocktail maestro's resume, which includes such venerable spots as Duke's, the Lanesborough and FIFTY. Serving up his famous concoctions such as the Breakfast Martini, a twist on the classic done with gin, Cointreau, lemon juice and orange marmalade; and the Spicy Fifty, a mixture of vanilla vodka, elderflower cordial, fresh lime, honey syrup garnished with a chili pepper, the dark and sultry room, with its cheek- to- cheek style booths has attracted a whole new audience. Those who love Salvatore and will follow him anywhere, and the young toffs who are wanting to see if the allure of the Hef legend still appeals. The bunnies still exist but are more covered up, and decidely more wholesome, making the L shaped space comfortable for both genders. While some still might not choose the spot as a first date; at a recent party ladies were loving the Bunny Bubbles, a champagne drink with Benedictine, and the 10 Brick Street, a gin cocktail utilising Salvatore’s own Liquore di Limone, and having a grand old time of their own. The Brick Street entrance also means nonmembers can enter the bar on weeknights between 6 and 10PM.
