Malmaison London 18/21 Charterhouse Square 011 44 207 012 3700 The Malmaison family is a mini British chain making use of old spaces such as a prison (the must-visit Oxford location), a former post office, a railway station, and with a mostly French staff, mostly imagines themselves as the sort of place Napoleon and Josephine might have stayed (after Chateau de Malmaison?). We think it might be more like the court versus the royalty though as this place is less boutique and more a good selection for those who'd rather have a big chain over a bed and breakfast, or more service than one could find at a pub. The EC1 London location is ideal for those working with banks in the City as it's walking distance into the City as well as right at Barbican, though perhaps the least quirky of the range. Very fresh nouvelle French food by chef John Woodward with seasonal delights such as a truffle-happy menu and pea shoot salad makes this also a business lunch destination. |
