Fox & Anchor
115 Charterhouse Street
011 44 207 250 1300

This EC1 spot is exemplary of the best of British. It looks like a
pub, but the food is anything but bar snacks (though yes they have
pork scratchings and pickled eggs.) Instead what they've done is
combine amazing local brews with starters such as poached duck eggs
over samphire. Book the cubbyhole for two and order from the Maldon
raw bar (we love the prawns served by the half pint or full pint), and
follow it up with their famous fox pies (such as the steak and oyster
or the Cornish pasty done with mushy peas and gravy - we like the lamb
shank one best, since it comes with the lamb still on the bone). Or
the 'can't miss' cod in Meantime Beer batter or their sticky back ribs
with corn the cob. Make sure to get a side of their goose fat chips
which will break your diet but be ever so worth it. Save room for the
Eton mess, served more like a sundae than anything else.
