St Pancras Grand
Kings Cross- St Pancras Station
Upper Concourse Euston Road
011 44 207 870 9900

Oddly what is special about St Pancras Grand is not the much discussed British set menu. (Coronation shrimp salad, really? For novices, Coronation chicken was invented to be affordable to even those with limited kitchen budgets. Hmm.) What is special is a beautiful Art Deco room, reminiscent of a bygone era, that is equally good for City celebrations as it is for lovers reuniting after a journey or saying farewell before one. Past the host in a bowler hat (how Thomas Crown), it's all about the oysters and the seafood platter with glasses of champagne to wash it down. Save room for the mains such as the pork belly. While many dishes, such as the tarragon cream chicken are wonderfully tasty without being 'make a journey here', the pork belly is 'worth missing the train to Paris' good. Succulent and tender, without being over- sauced, order a light mixed greens salad and the excellent new potatoes to complement; you can get a later EuroStar! p.s. if you're local, it's also worth adding the outside Champagne Bar to your regular pitstops. We wish every station had one of these. Six tubes pass through here, we know you can do it!
