Katsuya Hollywood 6300 Hollywood Boulevard 323 871 8777 As it says unmistakably on the door, this is Katsuya Uechi by Philippe Starck. SBE adds another outpost of the popular Katsuya at the corner of Hollywood and Vine to its collection attracting even more of those who want a bit of nightlife with their fish. (The Brentwood spot is still hot but now you have a choice.) Here it's spicy albacore tuna with crispy onions, salt baked sea bass with black truffles, and Kobe filet with foie gras in plum wine soy along with the usual generous amounts of toro and hamachi dishes, served up in an atmosphere of Starck's columns of sushi knives in resin, white leather banquettes and in the main dining room, a giant picture of red, red lips. Rave reviews for the drinks, the Sugarsnap, a sugarsnap pea infused vodka and the Kiwi cocktails. The only drawback in this practically perfect spot? The white metal chairs are not prone to lingering. Sometimes one does wish for function over form. |
