Tudor House
1111 Collins Avenue
Dream South Beach
305 534 8455

At this corner of 11th and Collins is the Art Deco Tudor House restaurant. An all-day affair from Chef Geoffrey Zakarian and Exec Chef Jamie DeRosa, the menu features such fantastic creations as a huevos rancheros (fluffy eggs, avocado and salsa with a kick in a rectangular skillet); their signature meatballs (with a fresh-pulled spaghetti); and Greek panzanella salad (crunchy cucumbers and tomatoes in a crispy/soaky bread salad). Pastry Chef Natalia Arevalo serves up fun key lime cubes and her version of home-made oreo cookies. Intended to take advantage of the Miami weather, there’s 125 seats outside (55 inside) and the spot also serves up to Highbar, the hotel’s roofdeck pool, as well as lunch catering for the beach (pre-arranged via the concierge). Original structural décor has been graciously maintained, not just on the outside for regulation reasons, but inside, the old hotel’s reception and concierge are now the bar and coat check. With added bar stools and newspapers, the spot does dual duty as a casual café as well as for dates or business meetings. Not to be missed is the wall of historic Miami photos selected from the historical society, with even the hallway to the bathrooms a mural of pre-war Miami seen from the sky. In less hot temperatures, a long outdoor fountain, surrounded by sustainable teak furniture, encourages lounging.
