Leave Rochelle Out of It
205 Chrystie Street

Nothing about Leave Rochelle Out of It (aka Rochelle's) is too serious. Not the name, which belongs to a former girlfriend of the two creative directors Brett David and Stephen Yorsz (who are lifelong friends and beard twins); nor the drink menu, which features such concoctions as 'Daddy Issues' (a lemon honey vodka mixture with a bit of a kick); nor the wall signs (scripted by Brett), which feature such hilarities as "All women are feminists, till the check comes." This slightly hipster bar (sorry Brett and Stephen but it is!) focuses on 70 brands of American whiskey including Old Heaven Hill, Michter's and Blanton's, as well as a selection of beers and cocktails (not just bourbon ones). They welcome everyone: the kids down the block, the cocktail junkies, and even, in their words, "the hedge fund hippies and the baby giraffes that love them". To soak it all up, there's small bites such as duck confit sliders, sweet wings, and the DGPBJ (a foie gras, peanut butter, raspberry jam, pancetta sandwich.) For those who know what this means; this is the first spot in NY to offer one litre mini-barrels of Old Forrester whiskey Breukelen cocktails. Just don't get your nooky on in the bathroom, as there's only one toilet, and the cheeky sign indicates they'll find you another nook if you're so inclined.
