Schiller’s Liquor Bar 131 Rivington Street 212 260 4555 Because we always tell it like it is, here's the straight deal on Schiller’s Liquor Bar that everyone else seems to deny or dance around; it's Pastis on the Lower East Side. Take away that fun sardine dish and the little licorice drinks, add German daily specials (hey it is the LES after all...), add some Wallpaper Magazine addicts and that's Schiller’s. One big plus? It's terribly inconvenient for confused tourists so for now you can enjoy your pork loin (scrumptious), lemon meringue pie (they say it's not their best dessert but we loved it) and "decent" wine in relative peace. (Wines by the glass come in cheap, decent and good. And in case you think you'll get away with it, the glass bottle is painted with a number designating your relative cheapness...) |
