You know you've been eating forever when you follow a chef's work through four great restaurants. A number of years ago, London's The Sugar Club was THE place to go. Well, Peter Gordon has finally saved us a trip to eat out with him. Peter and Anna Hansen (The Sugar Club, Providores) 's touches are evident all over Public. In the space that used to be the Connecticut Muffin factory (pre murder scandal!) is this large food effort. Resident chef Brad's "grilled kangaroo on a coriander falafel" has the familiar taste from when he was a sous-chef making Thai kangaroo salad at The Sugar Club. Brad and brother Adam Farmerie's Nolita space also has all the feelings of a well-executed design concept, thanks to Adam and his restaurant partners efforts in design firm AvroKo. Tiny "Public" labeled bars of soap make a wall in the bathrooms, old fashioned mailboxes face the entrance, and the lighting from the wall in the wine room are the shadows of the bottoms of many bottles comprising an extensive wine list. We liked that they had Shiraz and Zinfandel by the glass, loved the John Dory on saffron fingerling potatoes and huge Muscavado pavlova desert.
