Near where Sixth Avenue and Greenwich cross, comes this "Australian" inspired restaurant (in the old Jefferson space) from Nick Mathers (Ruby's) and the Ksubi clothing folks. We say Australian inspired because in truth there is nothing on the menu that struck us as particularly Aussie -- and being that we've been there every year of our lives, we feel entitled to comment on that. The only exception is the Bronte burger. Outside of that, expect a Goan fish curry, a market vegetables spaghetti, prosciutto pappardelle, beet salad, and Eton mess. While everything is passable (edible with the cumin in the salad dressing being even quite tasty) and admittedly the space has been improved upon since it was the Jefferson, the hipsters who've flocked to this spot so far either haven't had a good foodie meal, perhaps ever, or are too stupefied by the aspirational hip factor to challenge the poor service or the large check. For example, the Eton mess came done with apples before we pointed out that it should have been berries (then it was speedily replaced. hmm....) leaving us to wonder how many before us didn't know better and just ate whatever was put before them. And for two appetisers, a glass of house wine and a coffee, $65 a person was too much for what it was. In sum? We didn't hate it so much that we'd veto it if someone else insisted on going back, but if a date brings you here, perhaps it's an indication that that person values style over substance.
