GustOrganics owner Alberto Gonzales has a vision. In his world, we’d all be eating food as pure as it can be, replacing fast food in the world. Isn’t that amazing? It’s not a dream though. On this corner of 14th and 6th is this skylight and solar-lit, and wind-powered spot that is his first bite into making it happen. New York’s first certified organic restaurant (by a reputable third party agency), they use 100% USDA certified organic ingredients, down to the sugar on your table and their home-baked pastries (which are baked every two hours with organic yeast that costs you can’t even imagine how much.) Serving up a Latin-inspired breakfast, self-serve lunch and full service dinner, the menu includes organic empanadas, organic filet mignon and sweet media luna sandwiches, farm-fresh salads, Caprese or Fugazza pizza, turkey meatballs, risotto, sides of string beans, spinach and so forth, Dulce de Leche ice cream (they make their own Dulce de Leche), traditional flan, and must-have Clasico (banana with agave) and Rojo (strawberry with agave) smoothies. With 74 seats done from recycled Indonensian and Argentinian wood, walls from sustainable concrete, recycled paper containers and menus, biodegradable take-away utensils; no detail has been forgotten. Water is purified instead of bottled, cleaning products are green and Action Carting handles the protocol for the active compost processing, recycling and garbage. Green has never looked so yummy.
