A sense of fun surrounds this dessert focused spot and it's chef-owner Hali Horn. A pastry chef who alum'd at Kittichai, her menu of classic faves such as milk & cookies, chocolate cake, and strawberry shortcake is punctuated with extra special standouts such as the frozen banana custard with caramel walnut sauce (very ice cream-like), a toasted coconut cake which comes with a lime soaking syrup and beignets in three flavours stuffed with chocolate, vanilla or an apple compote (freshly made on the premises in her ridiculously well-organised kitchen.) There's also regular eats; a full menu of sandwiches including a BLT with garlic aioli; a grilled cheese with Mountain Valley cheddar on sourdough done with optional sauteed onions, tomato and bacon; and of course the classic PB & J. For the nibblers in your group, sides of pickles and spicy fries. The decor is kept simple - so don't expect ambient lighting - in fact, the Mama's pin-up style logo is punctuated by the almost 50s diner-eque feel of the spot. There's takeout for parties (or yourself) but with a crowd- pleasing mix of 80s and oldies, you'll kind of want to gather your friends here to share some sweets. Finally the dessert spot that New Yorkers have been looking for.
