Owner Joe Ngai and Chef Heng Meng Kong make great use of this corner space with their spot Hea (pronounced 'hee'). A split level restaurant, the downstairs is a comfortable lounge that defies the usual cliched Asianorama that seems to afflict so many restaurants in New York. Sure there's the lychee drinks but there's also more creative Asian fruit cocktails and we love the scrumptious padi oat crackers that the kitchen hand-makes with pride. Upstairs, two walls of clear glass give a stunning view. Don't know what's so special? True New Yorkers will look out and remember it was near this corner that Madonna filmed the boot scene in Desperately Seeking Susan and marvel at the ever changing landscape of New York. Foodwise, we loved the red curry snapper with eggplant, a light curry that's not too spicy, it goes perfectly with a side of soft, plump rice. A crispy duck is lightly breaded and done in a citrusy glaze - watch out for the red chilis which look *just* like the duck bites. For vegetarians, the Hea vegetables are broccoli, pea shoots and bamboo with glass noodles in a simple green curry. A belly dish is just the right mix of the lean and fatty bits of pork for meat lovers. All around a great addition.
