L'Absinthe 227 East 67th Street 212 794 4950 L'Absinthe has an old French feel - a mini Le Grand Colbert - the wall art is right, the decor is right, the food is right, even the drinks are right - expect French fare such as brandade de morue, Alsacienne pizette, peppercorn country pate, the requisite hanger steak, and of course the extensive absinthe menu served with the little fountain of water, spoon and sugar as expected. Though it can be quiet on some nights (diners come during the early bird hours and the place can shut by 10), we expect this place to gradually become the socialite crowd's next Mortimer's/La Goulue. Already Olivia Palermo, Kipton Cronkite, Montgomery Frazier, Gillian Hearst-Simmons have popped in. It's also a chef hangout, with Alain Ducasse, Paul Liebrant, and personal friends of L'Absinthe Chef Jean-Michel Bergnougnoux, Daniel Boulud and Eric Ripert also making their way through. Perhaps for the excellent tarte tatin or profiteroles, or perhaps the bake to order petites madeleines. It really is like a slice of Paris (the elegant side, not the racey Pigalle side mind you!) |
