Dinner anyone? Tom Colicchio (Craft, Top Chef) started ’wichcraft with partners Sisha Ortuzar and Jeffrey Zurofsky in 2003 quite possibly changing the way New Yorkers looked at lunch once and for all...... now all those who wondered why they don't serve dinner can stop wondering. And it won't cost you a lot either. A dinner menu sorted by grilled breads (bruschetta effectively but less crunchy), vegetables and meat/fishes with most things priced around $7 (meat dishes around $11), the must- have is the pork and pickle served with grain mustard. This is pork so tender that it could change the mind of even those who don't eat pork. Served with a vinegary sweet pickle, this could be your whole reason for coming here. But... outside of that, we also liked the chopped liver with pickled gherkins (very livery versus classic pate) and really enjoyed the quite classic, quite comforting meatballs with tomato and garlic bread. As the menu will keep changing, certain dishes are winners (the aforementioned) while other offerings are still finding their 'sea legs'. A roasted beets and dandelion leaves salad would be better with its yoghurt base and poppy seeds on the side and a gorgonzola and pears grilled bread is a bit too runny. However it's clear here that they are experimenting and at these prices, you can too. Finish it all off with either a chocolate trifle or their legendary cookies; we like the oatmeal best followed by the lemon poppy with jelly. Oh and p.s. did we mention that the wines by the glass are delicious. Nary a miss in the list.
