Alexander McQueen 417 West 14th Street 212 645 1797 It seems that one of the things that comes complimentary with the membership in a large luxury conglomerate is your very own store in the Meatpacking District. The Brit fashion mogul, now part of the Gucci empire, is getting by in New York with a little help from his friend and architect, William Russell. The store reminds us a little of a cross between Close Encounters and Alien 3, only a little less threatening. The decor consists of curvy display cases, fluorescent lighting, and recessed shelves with a very cocoon/ spaceship feel to it. In the center of the room lies the mother ship, which is a plaster island consisting of four dressing rooms in the interior and metal racks around the perimeter suspending the women’s collection. Being that Stella McCartney is down the street we wonder who will be the prevailing Brit on the block. Something tells us that Alexander won’t be hiring any men in alien costumes to draw in a crowd. |
