The Expats Are Coming
Q:I am coming to NY for NYE and am currently based in Hoxton/Shoreditch in London. Are the fashions about the same? Will I fit in with my Hoxton fashionista style. Maybe I don't want to fit in. What do you think?

Also, is the severe shortage of men really true? London is bad enough. Maybe with my accent I will be even more interesting?

I have met Toby Young - what DO you think of him?

Finally, all knowing ones, what is the name of that bar in the meat packing district with the lights under the floor?

Thanks

A:Well NZ, it really depends on what you're doing over New Year's Eve!
New York is quite different than Hoxton. It's dressier. New York, being (self and otherwise) annointed fashion capital of the world, this is a fast moving fast dressing town. For your big night? Black leather spiked heels by Edmundo Castillo, high boots with ribbon wraps by Hollywould, tiny vintage rabbit jackets - in black because every one else is doing white (you don't want to be pure as NY snow...). lingerie by Khurana. A spaghetti strap sequined dress with a small ruffle at the bottom. Some cuffs from Alexis Bittar, a lariat from Alzherina Gomes. An old menswear style hat by Rod Keenan or lola. And around your big night? Puma, Kangol, Marc Jacobs.

No darling. There is no shortage of men. The census backs us up. It is propaganda put out by insecure boys, so don't worry. We're asked for our cards as often as a college health service gives out condoms. The little stack of numbers pressed into our hands is so high, it's obscuring the computer screen.

Questions, questions! Toby Young was lovely to us. We think he's been through the ringer. He's a bit of a curmudgeony Grinch before his age so we think this might be the cause of his work and dating problems. But then corporate America can make any one loopy. Look at us! And like we said, he was all smiles and graciousness to us.

The bar is called Passerby.
